Welcome! This is a resource page designed for parents and devoted to the topics of citizenship and safe, positive online behaviors. I will be continuing to compile a list of resources for information on digital footprints, digital citizenship, and cyberbullying.

Informational Sites on Digital Footprints & Citizenship
1. Your Digital Footprint
What is a digital footprint? Do we all have one? What is yours like–is it a positive one or negative? Hopefully positive! Visit this site to read all about what a digital footprint is, how you get one through every single action you take online, and how to start actively making your footprint a positive one.
2. Kidsmart: Digital Footprints
On this website, you can learn some tips about how to create a positive digital footprint. You can also look at some digital footprint projects that other students made. Download a copy of the footprint and make your own! You can also learn what an IP address is and how that plays a role in establishing your digital footprint.
3. 21 Things 4 Students: Digital Footprint
On this site, kids can go on a virtual quest to reflect on their own online habits, learn about digital footprints, and create their own blogs that will help establish a positive online presence.
4. Nine Elements of Digital Citizenship
This webpage lists the nine themes of digital citizenship. #5 is digital etiquette, which is important to know and understand in this digital world. #7 is digital rights, helping kids to realize the need to take care not to infringe upon the digital rights of others, and how to know if their own digital rights have been violated. #9, digital security, touches on the importance of being safe in the online environment.

On this website, learn about bullying prevention and what you can do as an adult (or as a kid) to help stop disrespectful behavior as it is happening…or prevent it from happening before it begins. Parents, there are some links on the left side of the page on the website that will help give you an idea of what strategies to employ with children and what you can say in disrespect/bullying situations or discussions about aggressive behaviors.

This quick video is a commercial that aims to show children/teens the hurt that words can cause, and how when the anonymity is taken away, most people would not say the hurtful messages to someone else. It is an interesting take on the idea behind the “anonymous” quality of cyberbullying.

This link and the next link are short little videos told from the point of view of kids. This particular link is a quick lesson on tone in text messaging and how to be careful with what you say and how you say it. Great discussion to have with kids! We talk about this often in school.
